2004 - Newport moves closer to realizing its full potential as a single source provider through the acquisition of Spectra-Physics laser manufacturing. The merger added over 5,000 products to the more than 10,000 products already offered by Newport Corporation and along with Spectra-Physics, came its other well-known brands such as Oriel Instruments, Richardson Grating Laboratory, Corion Filters and Hilger Crystals. 2002 - Newport Corporation acquires MRSI Advanced Packaging and Solutions. 2001 - Newport Corporation and Kensington Laboratories crystallize their long-term business relationship with a merger. Based in Richmond, CA, Newport/Kensington is a leading supplier of atmospheric wafer handling robotics and semiconductor process tool automation equipment. Newport/Kensington, part of Newport's Advanced Packaging and Automation Systems Division (APAS), holds more than 20 patents protecting their breakthroughs in advanced robotics and motion control.
